I am a young, African-American female entreprenuer who established my business in 2008.
What is your primary product or service?
Life, Accident, Health, and Disability Insurance
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I've always had an interest in financial advising. Being a financial services professional, in the area of income tax for individual and small business, I come across clients who often inquire about insurance. Having an established business in bookkeeping and tax preparation, I decided to get licensed as an agent.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I am different in several ways. Firstly, I am a young African-American, single mother of one, who you seldom hear about becoming a success in this industry. Secondly, I set out to own my own insurance agency, aside from working with insurance firms that tend to be misleading to make a buck. Thirdly, my main purpose is to assist minority and low-income families in planning and preparing for a secure future for themselves and their loved ones.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I have a home based office. As my business continues to grow, I plan on having office space at some point.
